On February 28th, during a virtual ceremony, the firm was recognized for the second year in a row with the award for outstanding pro-bono work in the Familias Unidas initiative by the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice – in collaboration with Pro-Bono Foundation of Guatemala and the Pro-Bono Network of the Americas. The work was coordinated and led primarily by Claudia Pereira and Odín Guillén Leiva, with the assistance of Suzel Obiols and Daniel Fléfil, attorneys of the firm.
The Familias Unidas initiative is present in 25 countries and has helped approximately 200 cases of minors and separated families, some of which our firm has assisted in exceptional ways.
At the virtual ceremony, Jorge L. Escobedo –Director of Pro-Bono Partnerships, Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice and Coordinator of the Pro-Bono Network of the Americas – and Claudia Murga – Director of the Pro-Bono Foundation of Guatemala – were present and in charge of giving the award. Partner, Odín Guillén Leiva received the award on behalf of MAYORA & MAYORA and gave an acceptance speech.
Marcia Maack (Director of Pro-Bono at Mayer Brown) and David Flechner (Partner at Allen & Overy) hosted the virtual ceremony. Present too were other firms recognized by the Familias Unidas initiative, and theDiocesan Migrant & Refugee Services andYoung Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights were present, organizations that collaborate closely with Familias Unidas.
