M&M Guatemala Newsletter – Migratory Reforms.

Dear clients and friends,

The Official Bulletin this week published Accords 3-2022, 4-2022 and 5-2022 issued by the Guatemalan Immigration Institute, the National Immigration Authority. They contain various amendments on immigration matters, of which we consider important to report the following:

1. Accords 3-2018 and 5-2019 on service fees are repealed, establishing a new fee schedule which includes:

• Ordinary Guatemalan passport or its renewal: US$.85.00 valid for ten years.

• Passport replacement (both terms): US$.25.00.

• Temporary residence for refugees or political asylum: US$.50.00.

• Petition for information or documents expanding or clarifying documents filed with residence or visa applications: US$.5.00.

• Registration of sponsors: US$.25.00.

2. For the fulfillment of annual obligations, the year shall be understood as the corresponding tax period.

3. In order to appear as a Guatemalan sponsor, the Authority will accept filing a certificate of belonging to an industrial or commercial chamber, association or guild.

4. The substitution of sponsors may occur due to cancellation of the legal person or death of the previous sponsor.

5. The substitution of sponsors shall not apply to tourist or traveler visa applications.
